Swim Training Overview

We can set up training tailored to these particular needs:

  • Pool Comfort – gently removing fear and anxiety in the water (before a Learn To Swim experience)
  • Learn To Swim (for the first time, or learn freestyle for the first time)
  • Learn To Swim Freestyle Technique Better – Level 1 and Level 2 skills
  • Master Class 1K – prepare to swim your first 1K or a better 1K (just over a half-mile)
  • The Other Strokes (breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly)

Each of our training experiences focus on building skills, and the necessary specific fitness surrounding those skills.

Learn To Swim and Stroke Training sessions are typically 90 minutes in the pool. For Pool Comfort – working on fear/anxiety reduction – sessions are typically 60 minutes.

For each skill we will move through three steps during the training:

  1. Introduction to the the skills, the relevant focal points, and the drills we may use.
  2. In-water demonstration, hands-on correction and feedback from the instructor.
  3. Guided practice for you to integrate the new skills

You may read more about how we organize the progression of skills and training on our Levels Of Proficiency page.

Sequence

These swim and run lessons are skill-oriented and those skills are taught in an important sequence. Missing one of first three would make it difficult to step into the following lesson.

If you miss a lesson and need to make it up there is an $90 (60-min) makeup lesson fee (fee for one-on-one with your instructor). You may schedule that makeup lesson with your coach at a mutually convenient time before the next lesson in the sequence.

Suitability

For both swimming and running, you need to have clearance from your doctor or physical therapist if there is or has been any question about your fitness or safety in participating in exercises such as these.

We specialize in helping ordinary adults get safely involved in these activities. We are pleased to work with those who are younger or older, any body shape, any sports history or none, those who feel un-talented. We are eager to work with those who have experienced certain physical and neural disabilities.

Our swim training events are suitable for those who…

  • Feeling great fear or anxiety in the water (we would set up a training group for this need)
  • Are learning freestyle stroke for the first time
  • Are able to swim freestyle but would like to make it much better
  • Have experienced pain and injury from swimming previously

Our run training events are suitable for those who…

  • Are learning to run for the first time
  • Are eager to reduce or remove injury and pain from the running experience
  • Are able to run some distance but would like to make it much better
  • Have experienced pain and injury from running previously

Showing you how to swim and run in a much safer, stronger way is the main focus of our training services. We are passionate about showing you the path to better movement for more years ahead.
